Scorzayzee is a UK hip hop name I’d never heard until I became friends with the lads from Undertone Promotion’s here in Lincoln some years ago. This is funny, because I co-ran the Longuistics live hip hop nights here for years in the early 00′s, and Scorz is Nottingham’s (which is just up the road) most famous export as part of the Out Da Ville crew a few years back. I’m pretty certain we even put Out Da Ville on at Longuistics, but I’m sure that Scorz wasn’t amongst them that night.
Undertone rate him as one of the best the UK has ever produced, and Don Propa and Citizen Tat’s knowledge of UK hip hop is pretty prodigious to say the least. He’s also been around for a fairly long time, and has a lot of material kicking about if you know where to look for it.
I’ve recently actually listened to the bloke rap for the first time by downloading the recent Raging Bull mixtape, which is an impressive piece of work in itself.
As a follow up, I decided to give Donnie Propa’s unofficial Best of Scorzayzee mix a spin, and I see what Undertone were getting at. Literally every track on the thing is seriously heavy, and you’ll see from the tracklist alone that it’s crammed with talent from beginning to end. Scorzayzee utterly dons the rhymes throughout, and this mix is undeniable proof positive that the guy is one of the most talented MC’s the Midlands has ever had.
